Priscilla Slater goes to her 10-year high school reunion with equal parts dread and eager anticipation. Even though she's a successful owner of a chain of hair salons and no longer has the mousy brown hair, crooked teeth, and a discount-store wardrobe, she still feels like the ugly duckling. But when she arrives at the reunion, Priscilla soon realizes that her old classmates aren't exactly as she remembers them. With humor and a just a touch of sassiness, Priscilla finds herself facing her own truth - and she may be surprised at what she discovers.

I love the cover! But I have to admit my reading runs mostly to romantic suspense and a chick-lit book about a class reunion is a little stretch for me. Class reunions make me squirm! But after reading about the characters on "The Good Life," Debby's blog, I decided to give it a try.Debby works wonders in creating multiple characters that we can all recognize. The first person viewpoint for each main character could have created problems, but doesn't. And it was fun getting inside different character's heads. I liked Tim from the start, so Priscilla miffed me some. After all, can't she tell when a guy is hot and has a heart of gold? Laura and Pete intrigued me, too, because I know people just like them. Both can be a pain, but inside they mean well. Everyone's knows a Celeste--a woman that goes from frump to beauty--just as we all know a Trudy--the beauty queen who seems to have it all in high school but whose life now is in shatters. Numerous other characters fill out the story, intertwining like a well-woven carpet.
Yet, it's the insights into life and into our souls that blessed me. Debby has a way of step-by-step showing us these insights and then wrapping them up in a one sentence summary where you go, "Oh, yeah, I know that." Then she puts in a couple of surprises just so we'll come back for more.
Suspense? Some, but not in the classic way. The romance stuff? Some, but not in the classic way. :) We'll all have to read that second book to find out more about that.
To sum this up in three words, I liked it! I rarely give 5's, but I'm giving one today because this was a class reunion that I actually went to! :-D Debby creates well-developed characters, a well-developed plot, and those moments when we grin and go "Aha!" If you're a chick-lit person, you'll love it.

Pretty Is as Pretty Does (Audible Audio Edition) Debby Mayne Amy McFadden LLC Dreamscape Media Books Reviews
What a fun idea!!! Here is a set of 3 books that takes you through a 10 year, 15 year and 20 year class reunion with a batch of people (not necessarily friends...) that all went to school together. The cool thing is that we meet them in the first book and find out their personalities, who they were in high school, who they are now, where the drama in their lives is, and just why they feel the need to either stand up to who they were in high school or why they need to leave that behind. The "main" character is Priscilla who dropped out of college to own a hair salon that has turned into a chain. She is joined by a newer friend Tim, the only one who is a central character that actually did NOT go to school with everyone else. He just happens to be in love with Priscilla and will do anything to spend time with her including going to her high school reunions. Then there are all the secondary characters who lend lots of humor, drama and more drama to everything going on.
I absolutely loved following everyone over the span of 10 years... it's not often you get to go that far in the lives of characters you become friends with. These are contemporary novels that are lots of fun. I would definitely start at the beginning and follow the whole journey, don't jump in the middle. You will enjoy this series!
Pretty is as Pretty Does introduces us to everyone in the gang. It makes you realize just how dysfunctional we all are, but just how boring life would be without everyone. This book is a great start to a fun series - be glad that you can get all three and read them in order and in a row, you will want to.
I enjoyed this book, easy to read and cute story line. love all the different characters and their side stories.
it was a nice, easygoing book, but I was very disappointed in the ending. why end it that way. what a bummer
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT> As a hairdresser myself I loved this book. Ms. Mayne portrayal of the salon was spot on.
The characters were just quirky enough to be believable. I cannot wait to read the next 2 in this series.
This book dragged for me, but was realistic in that we all go through similar emotions and memories at the time of our reunion. It just too far too long to get to the point of the story.
This was a really delightful surprise. Each character had depth and came to life as a real person. I found myself wanting to continue with them. I definitely wasn't ready to leave their world! I'm from the south and went to school in Hattiesburg, MS and I was pleased with the way these characters represented real southerners as I know them rather than just southern stereotypes. A really nice read.
